The series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen, a family of dragonlords who once ruled Westeros. The series will follow the rise of House Targaryen from the time of Aegon the Conqueror’s conquest of Westeros to the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that nearly tore the family apart.
In the early days of Westeros, before the first Seven Kingdoms were formed, House Targaryen ruled over the entire continent of Essos. The family was the last of the old Valyrian dynasty that ruled over the Freehold of Valyria prior to its destruction. When the Doom of Valyria occurred, the last surviving members of House Targaryen were Aegon the Conqueror, his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys, and their young son Aenys. Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys were the only Targaryens to survive the Doom, as Aenys died shortly afterwards from a sickness. Aegon and his sisters then conquered the Seven Kingdoms, which resulted in the formation of the first Targaryen dynasty.
The series will chronicle the history of House Targaryen and take place about 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
